What is a Moxi laser?

A Moxi laser is a gentle, non-ablative fractional diode laser designed to correct early signs of aging, uneven skin texture, and sun damage. Manufactured by Sciton, it is widely celebrated as a premier “prejuvenation” treatment, meaning it helps younger patients stave off visible skin aging before it aggressively takes hold. Unlike more intense resurfacing lasers, Moxi refreshes the skin surface with minimal downtime, and is safe for all skin types.

What are the benefits of Moxi laser?

  • Fades Pigmentation and Sun Damage: Effortlessly clears up superficial freckles, age spots, and sun-induced discoloration.
  • Manages Melasma Safely: Uses low-energy settings that break up stubborn melasma patches without generating the high heat that typically triggers worse pigment flares.
  • Refines Texture and Pores: Smooths out rough, uneven surface textures and visibly minimizes the appearance of enlarged pores.
  • Softens Fine Lines: Stimulates your body’s natural collagen production to fill in early, shallow wrinkles and preserve skin elasticity.

Who is a candidate for Moxi?

  • Sun Damage & Pigment Concerns: Individuals looking to clear up superficial freckles, minor sun spots, and uneven skin tone.
  • Melasma Management: People dealing with stubborn melasma, as Moxi’s low-heat settings can gently break up dark patches without triggering the pigment spikes caused by stronger lasers.
  • All Skin Tones (Fitzpatrick I–VI): Unlike many resurfacing lasers that carry high risks for deeper complexions, Moxi is highly safe for dark skin tones
  • Texture & Pore Size Concerns: Moxi helps smooth texture, crepey-skin, and reduces the appearance of pores.

Who is not a candidate for Moxi?

Recent Accutane Use: Individuals who have taken oral isotretinoin (Accutane) within the past 6 months, as the drug severely alters the skin’s healing and recovery response.

Active Skin Infections: Anyone with active cold sore outbreaks (herpes simplex), bacterial infections, or open wounds in the target treatment area.

Recent Tanning or Sunburns: Anyone with an active sunburn, a heavy tan, or recent use of self-tanning lotions within the past 2 to 4 weeks. The excess surface melanin significantly elevates the risk of accidental blistering or thermal burns.

Photosensitizing Medications: People currently taking prescription medications that cause extreme light sensitivity (like certain antibiotics, diuretics, or topical retinoids used right up to the treatment date).

Pregnancy or Breastfeeding: Elective cosmetic laser therapies are generally deferred due to a lack of safety data and highly volatile, hormone-driven pigment risks.

Severe Rosacea or Eczema Flares: Individuals experiencing an active, inflamed eczema or rosacea flare-up, as the laser heat can severely exacerbate the inflammation.

Post Care

Moxi will leave your skin feeling tight, sensitive, and hot for 3-4 hours post treatment. Cool the skin with ice packs and nothing else for 12 hours post treatment.

Cooling the Skin: Expect a warm, sunburn-like sensation for the first few hours. You can apply a clean, cold compress or ice pack wrapped in a clean towel to soothe the skin.

Keep Skin Bare: Avoid applying makeup, regular moisturizers, or sunscreens for the first 24 hours. Stick strictly to any post-laser ointments provided by your clinic.

Avoid Heat and Sweat: Skip intense exercise, saunas, hot tubs, and steam rooms, as excess heat can worsen swelling and irritation.

Wash Gently: If you must wash your face the first evening, use only lukewarm water and a very gentle, fragrance-free cleanser. Pat dry with a clean towel; do not rub.

Expect a Sandpaper Texture: Around day 2 or 3, you will notice tiny, dark spots surfacing on your skin. These are MENDs (Microscopic Epidermal Necrotic Debris)—the old pigment being pushed out.

Do Not Scrub: Your skin will feel rough like sandpaper. Never scrub, exfoliate, or use a Clarisonic brush to force these spots off. Let them flake off naturally to prevent scarring.

Simplify Skincare: Stop all active ingredients. Pause retinoids, vitamin C, glycolic acid, and salicylic acid until the skin completely returns to its normal texture.

Approved skincare: Plated, Alastin skin nectar, moisturizer, spf, soothe & protect.
